The journey typically begins in Pokhara, with a scenic one-hour drive to Kande, the starting point of the trek. From here, the trail gently ascends through stone steps and lush surroundings, giving you a gradual introduction to the region’s natural beauty. Kande itself offers small local eateries where you can pause for refreshments before beginning the hike. The first stretch toward Australian Camp takes about an hour, and as you climb higher, the views begins gradually, revealing layers of green hills and distant snow-capped peaks.

Mesmerizing views from Australian base camp and Dhampus village hike

Australian Camp is a serene hilltop destination that feels almost like a natural balcony overlooking the Annapurna range. The open landscape and peaceful atmosphere make it an ideal place to pause, take photographs, and simply absorb the beauty of the Himalayas. The views here are especially captivating during sunrise and sunset, when the mountains are bathed in golden light. Despite its relatively low altitude, the perspective it offers rivals that of much higher trekking routes.

From Australian Camp, the trail continues for about another hour toward Dhampus village. This segment is mostly downhill and passes through forested paths and terraced farmland. Dhampus is a traditional Gurung village that provides a warm and authentic cultural experience. The locals are known for their hospitality, and walking through the village gives you insight into rural Nepali life—stone houses, neatly kept fields, and a slower, more peaceful pace of living. It’s a great place to relax, interact with locals, and enjoy a simple meal while surrounded by mountain views.
